We are honored to have Hilary Byatt on our team. She’s been practicing speech therapy for nearly 30 years, focused on home health for the last six and on the YTS squad since November 2017. Not only is she great at what she does, she has a true passion for the home health setting.

It’s because of all this and more, Hilary is our November Therapist of the Month.

To learn more about how awesome she is, check out this quick Q&A.

Q: Why are you passionate about home care and how long have you been in the home health setting?

A: I’ve been practicing in the home health setting for six years and feel like I’ve found the care venue where my passions lie. Since home health is often the final step in a patient’s recovery, it’s the last destination to make a real difference. Additionally, when I’m caring for a patient in his or her natural surroundings, versus say skilled nursing, I can incorporate care into the patient’s life and involve family members. It’s a more all-encompassing and detailed care venue. I love being a part of it.

Q: Why did you choose a career in healthcare?

A: Largely because of the variety and personal interaction. I love the field of Speech Pathology for its myriad of diagnoses, settings and clientele. I started out working with kids in schools, but most of my career has been directed at geriatrics with an emphasis on training and leadership roles. Overall, it’s so exciting to be in a field where I get to continually learn and develop my skills to help patients. It’s wonderful to have a new day everyday with fresh challenges.

Q: What do you like to do when you’re not caring for patients?

A: I love to cook, travel and watch good Netflix shows on the treadmill.
